The Compliance dashboard is the page to open on a Monday morning. It puts everything with a date on it in one place: driver licences and qualifications, MOT, tax and insurance on the wagons, your carrier registration, your permits, and whether your DEFRA filing is keeping up.
The point is that nothing expires quietly. An expired carrier registration or a lapsed MOT is the sort of thing you find out about at the roadside if a screen is not telling you first.
How to do it
In the sidebar, under Reporting, click Compliance.
Read the strip at the top. If everything is clear, it says so in one line. If it is not, you get tiles instead: DEFRA filing, Expired now, Due soon, and Retention when documents are past their keeping period. Every tile is a link into the thing it counts.
Go to Needs attention. If it says Nothing needs action, you are done for the day.
Otherwise work down it. Each row is one real problem, worst first, with the button that fixes it on the end: Update driver, Renew on GOV.UK, Review carrier, View register or Open records.
On a row about a carrier registration, click Check live register to look it up on the Environment Agency register there and then. If an imported list had it wrong, the alert clears on the spot.
Open Data gaps at the foot of the queue to see expiry dates that are not on file yet. Those are missing dates rather than live problems, which is why they sit apart.
Below the queue are the Registers, the reference tables behind the answer above: your permits first, then the fleet table of vehicle documents, then the drivers table of licences and qualifications. Anything reading Expired, Expiring Soon or Incomplete is worth clearing.
Export register (CSV), at the top right, gives you the lot in one file for an auditor or an insurer.
Worth knowing
A driver showing "No walkaround check on record" has not done their vehicle check. That is the one people miss, and it is the one an examiner asks for.
The permits register keeps your own permits and their limits, so you can see how much headroom you have before you take another contract on.
The DEFRA filing tile counts receipts at risk of missing the two working day deadline, and clicking it takes you to the ones that still need sending. If your site is not connected to DEFRA yet, the tile says that instead, and Settings, then DEFRA, is where you put that right.
Permits get a longer warning than vehicles, sixty days rather than thirty, because a permit renewal takes longer to come back than an MOT.
Nothing here is a guess. Every row links straight to the record it came from, so a fix is two clicks away.
