LoadSnap gives work to vehicles rather than to drivers, because the vehicle is what decides whether a job can be done. A skip loader, a ro-ro hooklift and a tipper each carry different things. So your wagons go on first, and the rest follows.
You will not type much. Put the registration in and DVLA fills in the make, the year, the fuel, the tax and the MOT.
How to do it
In the sidebar, under People and Places, click Vehicles.
Click Add vehicle.
Type the registration and click Look up DVLA. The make, colour, year, fuel, engine size, Euro status, revenue weight, tax status and MOT expiry come back on their own. Every one of them can be typed over if DVLA has it wrong.
Under Specification, pick the body type: skip loader, RoRo hooklift, front-end loader, rear-load, caged tipper, curtainside, tanker, grab, van or other. Then set the max payload in tonnes.
Under Capabilities, tick the container types this wagon can actually handle: skip loader, grab arm, tipper, tail lift, roll-on roll-off, flatbed, enclosed box, crane or hiab, vacuum tanker. This is what stops a ro-ro job landing on a skip wagon.
Under Compliance dates, check the MOT expiry and road tax expiry that came from DVLA, and add the insurance renewal and the date the V5C was issued, which DVLA does not give us. LoadSnap will keep an eye on all of them for you.
On the right, set the home yard, or leave it unassigned if the wagon floats between sites. You can also name the driver who usually has it.
Click Add vehicle.
Worth knowing
Capabilities feed straight into creating a job: only vehicles that can carry a job's containers are offered. A wagon with nothing ticked is a wagon nobody can book work onto.
If DVLA says there is no such registration, check for a typo before assuming it is broken. Personalised plates and very new vehicles are the usual culprits, and you can always fill the details in by hand.
Naming a default driver here puts them on the wagon straight away. To crew the fleet day to day, use Assignment. Most businesses keep the same driver on the same wagon week to week.
Compliance dates are worth filling in even for a wagon you are about to sell. It is the page your transport manager will want when the traffic commissioner asks.
